Venice. Just the name signals interesting destinations of Europe. The gondolas and the music is simply made for the romantic dreamer who wants to stroll hand in hand with someone down a starlit street… or all alone down a starlit street.

Filled with crumbling buildings, old style architecture, history and romance, Venice is made for lovers, artists, dreamers, or history buffs.

Oddly enough February in Venice is absolutely perfect. The Venice Carnevale takes place in February and the weather is cool and mornings are foggy, which is just about perfect for strolling the streets. Venice is a city to walk, made of canals and small enough to get around in nicely, driving is simply a headache waiting to happen.

Things you just can’t miss:

Doges Palace is one of the awesome sights, while the prison on the other side of the canals is something you’re going to want to take in, in a spoooky.. ohmigoodness kind of way.

Of course you want the prerequisite ride in the magical boats, doesn’t everyone, whether you’re together or alone those are a must see and must do part of Venice. T

The Naval History Museum lets you explore the roots of the naval history there if you’re into such things and of course the cuisine in Venice is to die for.

While you’re doing your sightseeing bit and taking in the Rialto Bridge there is a great little restaurant that you can dine at with good prices and mouthwatering foods.

Restaurant Antico Dolo not more than ten steps from Rialto Bridge is nestled very nicely into the magical atmosphere of the area known as market area.

Old traditional Venetian cooking is offered to you and you’re going to get the same foods that kings and queens ate in centuries past. Take the time to visit one of the most interesting destinations in the world–Venice Italy

You don’t perhaps think of Budapest as an interesting destination but you should. Budapest Hungary, with the plentiful architectural offerings, the amazing foods, the incredible little cafe’s and coffeehouses and the amazing scenery is somewhere that has a lot of draw and something you should see once in your lifetime.

Budapest has a full rich history of wars and mysteries and royalty. The castles, churches and bridges alone are worth a trip to Hungary to view, let alone the cuisine and the local people who are colorful and friendly to say the least.

You’re going to start your morning, and your journeys at Gerbeaud
It is the town’s No. 1, coffeehouse, located in the center of town in whats called the Vörösmarty square.

At one time it was owned by the Swiss Gerbeaud family who were known far and wide as incredible confectionary makers and people from the world over would come to taste the amazing coffee or the Dobos cake. Gerbeaud is not only a coffee house and a confectionary now, its also renowned as an architectural masterpiece that sites much the same as it did at the turn of the century.

Gerbeaud has changed very little and still houses the lovely interior that features two French marble fireplaces and long marble counters on which you will find a wide array of pastries, cakes, sandwiches and coffee or teas.
Addresss: Budapest V. Vörösmarty tér 7.
Website: www.gerbeaud.hu

Once you’ve finished the morning repast pay a visit to the Chain Bridge, a site that is a wonder in and of itself but also gives you a nearly 360 degree view of the city, resplendent in the amazing past meets present stylings.

The planning was begun by the count István Széchenyi, who is known as “the greatest Hungarian.”He began organization of the bridge while traveling abroad in England where he became aquainted with William Thierney Clark. He commissioned him to draw up plans for the bridge and Adam Clark was hired to oversee the construction that was finished in 1849. In 1945 German troops blew it up as they were retreating, however on the hundredth anniversary of the bridge it was restored to its former glory.

The retreating German troops blew up the Chain Bridge in January 1945. This vital element of Budapest’s cityscape was restored on the 100 th anniversary of its inauguration.

The Matthias Church is another stop that you can’t fail to make. The site of the coronation of eqach of the Hungarian kings, beginning with King Matthias the first historical mention of the church seen in records happens in 1247. It has been rebuilt, enlarged, added to and transformed but remains in part what it has been since that time.

St. Stephen’s Basilica

The largest cathedral is not actually a basilica but was given the title by the Pope. It was dedicated in 1905 and carries a statue of Saint Stephen in the sanctuary done entirely in marble.

The surrounding hillsides and lands are lovely and worth a hike just to see. Green and lush Hungary has outdoor pleasures as well as indoor ones, with wonderful autumn weather.

Dinner time brings you back to town for some amazing cuisine. It holds a great deal from other days and times as well as other cultures, since Hungary tends to be a multicultural area.

Some dishes you will find come from the Turks as well as the Slavic people while others such as highly spiced foods and pastries come from Austria. Many beef, pork and rich meat dishes are cooked using very old style methods, and may include a great deal of butter or lard so you’re not going to be dieting today.

The famed Goulash, or what the Hungarians call “gulyás“ is the most famous of dishes but in Hungary it is a soup. INcredibly delicious it was first made by shepherds and cowboys, a combination of beef cooked with chopped onion, potatoes, paprika and other things. What we in the US know as goulash is known as stew there and very much a treat that you will want to try. While you’re in Hungary don’t forget to try the flaky desserts known as strudel.

Hungary is also a wine producing area and a visit to the wineries should be part of what you spend your time doing while you’re there.

San Francisco, the best known and possibly the most interesting destination in California is a haven for architects, hippies, new age and victorian fans, and a whole lot in between.

The cuisine is virtually limitless and nearly as famous, while the things you’re going to see there will span the Victorian age, the space age, and the computer age.

It feels like stepping in and out of a time warp as you want street to street.

Union Square, one of the three original parks in the city is now a public space on top of an underground garage, surrounded by shops of the most elegant variety as well as theaters in close proximity to it.

Often called a moving landmark, the cable cars of San Francisco shouldn’t be passed up when you visit this most interesting of places.

Chinatown is a study in what the earlier 20th Century architects supposed that Chinese buildings should look like. There’s a whole lot here thats geared toward and created just for the tourists, but if you take the time and peek in deeper, you’re going to get a solid glimpse of the “real” Chinatown by checking out the smaller alleys and local shops.

Then there are the Victorian homes, something right out of “Charmed” the homes are a study in remarkable architecture and a more gentle, cultured time in San Francisco’s history. These are something that you simply can’t miss. Row upon row of beautiful homes lined up spelling gracious living at it’s best.

Lombard, whats been long called the “Crookedest” Street is not the most crooked nor is it the most steep but its absolutely the best known and most viewed.Take the cable car to to Lombard and Hyde and take a walk around to see some of the most amazing little places in the city.

Sausalito, just over the San Francisco Bay by a short ferry ride can offer you some of the best views you’re going to find of San Francisco.

Ocean Beach, the Cliff House has been a vaunted and well viewed part of SF since 1863, when the first one of the Cliff House was built. The version you’re seeing today is the third building.

As far as interesting destinations go, there are probably some that offer more adventure, but as cities go, San Francisco offers you history, architecture, a grand view of the past and a remarkable look at the future. The next time you’re in California, check out San Francisco’s small side streets and alley ways for a one of a kind adventure.

Not a city you might think of as an interesting destination, Ghent Belgium is among the most beautiful and unique places in the world. Gorgeous landscapes and amazing old castles, Gent, or Ghent depending on who you’re talking to, is like a step back in time, complete with Wi-Fi and modern day conveniences.

In a very special way, Ghent has somehow kept the medieval feeling while growing up and changing with the times. A castle that seems to be directly from the middle ages sits next door to a cafe, a chocolate shop and both are hustling with visitors, while the internet cafe down the street offers you great communications.

The city is just a showpiece of real wealth and success in commercial ventures, the very important harbor bringing products to the city and beyond, while the University (UGent) offers higher education and continues growing in both importance and stature. The entire area seems to be a Mecca of sorts for students and the young, making Ghent one of the most important cultural areas in Belgium

Not far away, a day trip to Paris is possible by means of the train, or you can go on one of the many tours which are provided by sea going tour groups on the Ghent Terneuzen canal.

The floral offerings of Ghent are both amazing and outstanding, as flower growers from the entire area sell huge floral bouquets of begonia’s and azalea’s, not only here but all over the entire world. If you get the chance to visit, time it correctly and you may get a chance to visit the once every 5 years ‘Gentse Floraliën” ( Ghent Flower Show) which brings in literally thousands of people and a great deal of color to the city.

The trip to Ghent means that you’re going to need some time. Time to take in the vast array of architectural wealth , the amazing charm and local color, the people, and the vast array of new technology in the old world atmosphere. In addition the cuisine is simply not to be equalled. Ever tiny hamlet offers a chocolate shop, all of which feature the most rich and delicious chocolates in the world, while the other foods and the veritable treasure trove of ales to try are also outstanding.

Pubs are absolutely immense and the variety of things you can do and see are incredible. In the middle of town sits Gravensteen castle, and is well worth the price of seeing.. Collections of medieval torture instruments will have you shuddering and pointing, as you survey one of the largest collections of these devices in the world.

Pubs as we said.. well stand by. If yo’ure a lover of beer or ale, you’re never going to find a place better suited to you and the friendly locals here are just outstanding. So willing to show you the sites and become your friend nearly instantly.

One pub has a different glass for each type of beer, and you turn in your shoe. The glasses are so expensive that you need to leave them one shoe and when you return the glass you get your shoe back.

Ghent Belgium should absolutely be on your list of interesting destinations if you’re a lover of castles, flowers, chocolates, higher learning, new technology, hiking, … well, the list goes on and on.

The city of Cairo is famed as the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab world. It’s also famed as one of the most interesting destinations in the world. Magic and mystery form Egypt’s past and it’s present is full of amazing things as well.

Islamic building styles predominate, resulting in Cairo being known as the ‘City of a Thousand Minarets’. The ancient capitals of some nations can be seen in the parts of Old Cairo and the attractions of the Great Sphinx and pyramids draw many tourists to the sites every year. One other nickname is the “Triumphant City” and that is one that Egyptians revel in while celebrating the oldest film and music industries in the Arab world.

In addition to the population of over six and a half million people within the city, there are at least ten million people on the outside of the city proper area, this makes Cairo the eleventh largest urban area in all of the world. Most travelers come here by air and are amazed by the activity of Cairo, and the shopping is definitely among the best anywhere around in the terms of variety and workmanship.

The most famous marketplace is the Khan el-Khalili souk, which has remained much the same since the 14th century. Gold, silver, leather, glass, rugs, ceramics, perfumes and even camels are some of the items available if you have the backyard for them.

The history of Cairo is one of conquest and occupation by various armies, from the Persians, Romans and Greeks to the Islamic Arabs. The French and British have been the latest to occupy Cairo lasting until the early 1950’s. The influence of the different occupations has led to a diverse city that has much to offer to the world as it continues to keep growing and changing. This makes Cairo absolutely on the list of interesting destinations to visit.

Not all of the attractions are the outdoor ones consisting of tombs and pyramids. Cairo has many other sites to see. One of the most attractive is the Cairo Opera house, which was built to replace the older opera house that burned in 1971. In addition to the Islamic mosques, monuments and other buildings of note, there is the Cairo Geniza, an accumulation of nearly a quarter of a million Jewish manuscripts that were from the Ben Ezra synagogue in old Cairo. They range from 870 to 1880AD.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities has the largest collection of antiques, with over one hundred thirty thousand on permanent display. Built in 1891, it was moved from Boulak to the Giza Palace in the Tahrir square. There are seven large sections, each specializing in a different theme or type of collection, many arranged in chronological order. The first section houses Tutankhamen’s treasures with one hundred and seven halls.

One of the busiest cities in the United States and the largest in Illinois, Chicago is a renowned hub for transportation, industry, infrastructure and telecommunications in all of North America, as well as being the home to many politicians, including the current president of the United States. It is the only American city on the list of final four cities contending for to host the World Olympics in 2016. The Native American tribes gave way to the trappers and traders and in the middle 1830’s the last of the Potawatomi natives were removed by the white man and the ‘wild onion’ city was on the way to becoming theChicago that we know today.

The importance of Chicago as a transportation hub was discovered early on as the need for efficient transport between the eastern and western parts of the fast growing United States.

The city of Chicago has become a holder of many firsts such as the first skyscraper built in 1885 after the Great Chicago Fire that wiped out over a third of the city. The World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 was one of the most influential in bringing advances in culture and progress to Chicago. One other era is among the first to come to mind thinking of Chicago, that of the gunmen who ran the city in the Prohibition era when only a few brave men remained uncorrupted by the money offered by criminals.

Today, there is so much to do and see in Chicago, that it is hard to pick a favorite place to see, from the museums and art collections on the Loop to the Harpo Studios where the television show ‘Oprah’ is produced. There are wonderful parks along the waterfront and the Museum of Science and Industry and the Garfield Park Conservatory which has the largest collection of tropical plants in the country are two of many that draw tourists to visit here every year.

Professional sports teams also draw many to the different fields and sporting arenas in Chicago, fulfilling the title of ‘Best Sports City in America” given by the Sporting News in two different years. Baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer are some of the sports played here, but the lacrosse team and marathons are very popular also.

Chicago is the home of many things and this includes jazz, blues and many different manufacturing companies. The Sears tower is one of the landmarks among the skyscrapers and many books, movies and poems are written about Chicago. The other two tallest skyscrapers in the nation are also in Chicago. For the traveler, there are a variety of ways to get here, ranging from air travel, railroad, bus and car. When visiting the Loop area, it is a good idea to not drive as the traffic is horrendous. Take a taxi, bus or the train, it will save a lot of headache.

Dallas, Texas is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States and the only one of this size without a navigable port to open water. The basis for the founding of Dallas was cotton, railroads and industry. Today, the economy is primarily on commerce, banking computer technology, transportation, and telecommunications; with the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the country. The Trinity River provides a vital source of life here in the north Texas and the focus of a continuing greening project along its banks that will encompass some twenty percent of land along the river with the result being the largest urban park greenbelt in the country.

One of the areas that draw the most visitors to the ‘Big D’ is the arts district which has some of most impressive collections of collectible art in the country. The Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Dallas Museum of Art are two of the many places to enjoy this. The jazz and blues of the 1920’s and 30’s were the place to hear hot new music artists in the Deep Ellum area.

For recreationists, the parks in the Dallas area contain over seventeen lakes, and the home of Six Flags over Texas amusement park is a short distance away in Arlington, Texas. Because of the flatness of the land, bicycling is one of the fastest growing recreational activities in the area. The public transportation system is one of the best with the bus and rail lines offering great deals for visitors who do not wish to drive on the roads and freeway system.

The food is among the best in Mexican, Tex-Mex and a variety of specialized cuisine to tempt any eater. The original Chili’s and Romano’s Macaroni Grill are in Dallas. Steaks and barbeque have made the city famous for food.

Sports too, have not been neglected here in D-town. There are professional football, baseball, basketball, hockey teams as well as college and university teams. One sport that is unexpectedly found in Dallas is the English sport of cricket.

The annual State Fair brings in over three hundred million dollars to the city every year. With the origins of the dependence of the city being on the cattle drives and beef, there is great prestige in having the best of the best in the State Fair.

Of course, the mention of Dallas brings to mind the television show of the same name, but many more Americans think of the killing of JFK at the Texas School Book Depositary. The building serves as a county office building now, but the entire sixth and seventh floors are a museum display about the infamous day in Dallas that brought a nation together in shock over the assassination of the young President Kennedy. Other places of interest to the visitor are the Cotton Bowl, the South fork Ranch, Reunion Tower the Texas Stadium and the Dallas Zoo are just a few among many attractions that Dallas has to offer.

This home of amazing wildflowers, vast wilderness and beautiful creeks and flowing waters, Denmark would be the ideal setting for a vacation, a summer adventure or even a destination wedding. The time difference from the west coast is about 9 hours, which will give you a reasonable case of jetlag so make sure you’ve got an extra day to play and relax before you begin to check out the breathtaking scenery and the incredible foods.

Denmark is among the most interesting destinations in the world for multiple reasons. Denmark is ranked number ten among the “greenest” countries in the world, with models for ways to live a more environmentally good lifestyle in place for decades. They were among the first to take green living seriously. //
